Summary: Esca and Marcus' thrilling adventures ;D
One.
"Remind me never to let you into a tavern again!" Marcus panted as they sped round the corner, jumped over a cart and plastered themselves against a wall. The angry horde sped past their hiding place, and Esca peered round the corner.
"You know, I'm quite impressed actually. They brought out torches to burn us out."
Marcus glared at him.
"Well, considering that you not only called the tavern-owner a prostitute, but insulted the town's women, I wouldn't be surprised if they roused the local Legion just to get rid of you."
Esca raised an eyebrow at him, though his eyes glinted with mischief.
"So I won't tell you about what I said to the legionary then."
Marcus looked at him.
"Never, EVER allowed in a tavern."

Two.
Yells of anger came from the house, as the sounds of breaking plates grew louder. One man came out the house, and scanned the riverbank.
"Where are you?!!"
As he went inside, Esca and Marcus surfaced in a splutter, and it was Esca's turn to glare at Marcus.
Marcus lifted a hand in a helpless gesture.
"Well, she was making a mistake. Togas are for men, not women."
Esca grabbed a handful of rivermud and threw it into Marcus' face. As he spluttered and started to wipe the mud from his face, Esca continued to glare.
"Let's go to Gaul, you said. They're lovely people, you said. I get on with all of them, you said."
Esca turned back to looking at the house in front of them, where screams now joined the angry yelling.
"I hate you, so, so much Marcus."

Three.
"And here, is one of the greatest wonders of our world!"
The guide gestured to the magnificent lighthouse, and Esca shrugged.
"Looks like something we saw in Port Dubris."
Marcus didn't even bother booking a room for the night.

Four.
Marcus looked up at the night-sky, and sighed.
Esca rolled over and looked at him.
"Marcus?"
"I was thinking about how easy my life was before I met you," he said, gesturing to the night sky above them.
Esca winced, and patted him on the arm.
"If it makes you feel any better, this is the most adventure I've had for a long time."
Marcus smiled, and looked over at Esca.
"Thankyou Esca, this is the most fun I've had since I was a boy."
The two of them fell silent, watching the stars flicker, listening to the rustle of the grass.
"Though I will say," Marcus added, pointedly not looking over at Esca, "if you had stopped yourself from trying to beat up the Prefect, we wouldn't need to be looking at the stars, as we would have a tent."

Five.
"Come ON Marcus!" said Esca, dragging him towards the horses which were luckily still saddled.
"How DARE they! Cowards! You have never known honour, may Orca punish you for eternity for your actions!"
Esca hauled Marcus to face him.
"Marcus, while I admire your courage, honour and integrity, right now, we have to leave Rome or we will be taken prisoner and most likely killed!"
Marcus looked at Esca, and threw his hands open.
"Esca they called you my slave, refused to listen to you, and also refused to grant you citizenship because according to them, Britons have no honour, when that couldn't be further from the truth!"
Esca smiled and placed his hand on Marcus's cheek.
"So I will get it another way. It is not important, what is important, is leaving before they put out a notice for your capture."
He spun Marcus round and shoved him towards the horses, while he ran to the gate and dragged it open. Running back, he jumped onto the back of his horse, and looked at Marcus.
"Ready?"
Marcus nodded.
"Always."
The thunder of their horses' hooves as they galloped out of the stables drowned out the senators' cries of indignation.
