This is my version of "Little Red Riding Hood", written so I could write "What big ears you have ..." which isn't posted here yet, and hopefully I'll use it to write a nice dark version for a MirrorVerse style something or other. It does end a little differently to the traditional tale ... :)

Not mine yadda yadda yadda :D

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who was loved by all round her. She was kind, loving, sweet, and loved wearing red. One day, her mother sent her to her Grandmother’s to give her some food, and Little Red Riding Hood (for that was her name), agreed to take the task. Her mother warned her as she left the house, “don’t leave the path as you go through the forest!” and Little Red Riding Hood smiled and said “Yes mother, I won’t leave the path”, and off she went.

However Little Red Riding Hood was not aware of what lived in the forest – a Wolf with eyes as sharp as knives, who especially liked the taste of little girls. As Little Red Riding Hood made her way through the quiet forest (for even the birds were scared of the Wolf), the Wolf watched her move through the trees – a graceful figure all in red, the hood slipping to reveal blonde hair that looked like sunbeams, and a smile playing on her lips as she made her way to her grand-mother. The Wolf licked his lips in anticipation, and stole his way through the trees to the break in the path. There, he waited for Little Red Riding Hood to appear, and he placed himself in front, barring the way.

“Little girl, what are you doing in the forest all by yourself?” he asked, and Little Red Riding Hood replied (for she had not learnt to not talk to strangers).

“I am off to take a basket of food to my Grandmother’s, for she is unwell. Is this the correct path?” she asked the Wolf.

The Wolf grinned and replied.

“No little girl, it is not. You must take that path” he said, pointing to the path that was dark, gloomy, and silent. Little Red Riding Hood looked at the path, and frowned.

“But Master Wolf” she asked, “that path looks dangerous. Are you sure it is the correct path?”

“Why of course little girl, I swear on my heart” the Wolf replied, and Little Red Riding Hood nodded, for the Wolf had sworn it was true, and no honourable creature would break their word if they swore on their heart.

“Thank you Master Wolf, is there any way I can repay you?” she asked, and the Wolf thought about eating her there and then, but he resisted.

“No thank you little girl, now, run along, your Grandmother will be waiting.”

With a nod, Little Red Riding Hood headed down the dark gloomy path, and the Wolf smiled, before heading down the sunlit path to the Grandmother’s house.

With a knock at the door, Little Red Riding Hood’s Grandmother appeared, and quick as a wink, the Wolf ate her all up. Quickly, he shut the door (but did not lock), clambered into the Grandmother’s bed, and made sure the light was turned off so Little Red Riding Hood would be unable to see him properly.

Eventually, there was a knock at the door, and the Wolf called out in a high quavering voice, “Come in!”

In walked Little Red Riding Hood, and the Wolf’s heart beat faster at her dishevelled state. Little Red Riding Hood shut the door and locked it behind her, and stood in the middle of the floor, shaking out her red cloak.

“Oh Grandmother, what a journey! I am covered in mud, I’m freezing cold, and my cloak is all torn from the path to here. Whatever will I do?”

“Never mind child” the Wolf replied, “remove your cloak and climb into bed with me to warm yourself up.”

“Thank you Grandmother” said Little Red Riding Hood, and she removed her cloak and placed it on a hook by the door. She walked forward, and tried to make out the shape of her Grandmother in the gloom, but she was unable to.

“Grandmother, why is the light off? May I turn it on so I can see you better?”

“No child” the Wolf replied, “for my head hurts, and the light makes it worse. Please, you must be cold, come into bed.”

“Yes Grandmother” replied Little Red Riding Hood, and she climbed into bed with the Wolf. Looking across at the Wolf, she narrowed her eyes.

“Grandmother, what big ears you have!”

The Wolf grinned as he edged closer.

“All the better to hear you with my dear.”

Little Red Riding Hood frowned, and pursed her lips.

“And what big eyes you have Grandmother!”

The Wolf licked his lips as he drew closer.

“All the better to see you with my dear.”

Little Red Riding Hood sat up slightly in the bed, and drew the covers closer to her.

“Grandmother, what big teeth you have!”

“All the better to eat you with my dear!” And with one roll, the Wolf pinned her down, and ate Little Red Riding Hood up.
